It’s just a garden bench!
Yes, it is just a garden bench, but you can use it in so many ways. To make a garden bench worthwhile, all you really need is some open space and a view. Benches can add to the pleasure you get from your home landscape, and at the same time be a part of it.
Garden benches are best in a dry area, especially if you want to be able to enjoy the bench year round, and you should! Place it on your deck or patio, if that is not an option create a well-tamped gravel bed or use paving stones for a dry and stable setting for your bench.
Placing your garden bench in the sun is good, but too much in the heat of summer is not a good thing. Your garden bench will be a more comfortable resting spot if you place it where it gets some shade. Placing it under a tree is ideal, with the tree losing its cooling shade just as the weather turns cooler. Or you can make your own shade. Using an umbrella, gazebo, or arbor will give you a reasonable amount of shade for your garden bench.
Cushions for the bench?
Thanks to many new all-weather fabrics, outdoor seating can be just as comfortable and stylish as indoors. Check out the cushions available at patio stores and garden centers, then use them to soften a bench.
A garden bench with storage
Many benches can also serve as storage units. They can hold potting supplies, commonly used tools, towels for the pool, and those comfy cushions. Look for storage benches in wood and durable plastics.
Create a theme
There are so many styles of garden benches you can create a theme for you yard. The bench may just be part of your decor, functional yes but mostly to bring your theme to life. Maybe a western theme with a boot fountain and wagon wheel bench, or a butterfly garden bench. There are many styles so be creative.
A welcome surprise
In your yard, it's sometimes a good idea to keep a few secrets. By placing your garden bench off the beaten path it can be a welcome surprise to anyone who goes on an adventure. A comfortable spot near the pool or fountains is always nice too.
Finally, don't think that a garden bench's use ends when the leaves start to fall. Regardless of season, a garden bench adds to the garden, whether it's catching the first snowfall or providing a spot to enjoy the colors of autumn.
See you next week
